LINCOLN, NEB — Duncan Aviation is pleased to announce that two of its four Fixed Base Operator (FBO) facilities—those in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Provo, Utah--have earned the International Safety for Business Aircraft Handling (IS-BAH) Stage II accreditation.
IS-BAH, developed by the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC), is a set of global industry best practices for business aviation ground handlers that truly feature robust Safety Management System (SMS) practices. Duncan Aviation earned Stage I IS-BAH accreditation by having a physical audit from Wyvern Limited, a global leader in aviation risk assessments and audits. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the stage II audit took place virtually.
“This virtual audit experience was positive thanks to the preparedness and resourcefulness of the Duncan Aviation team,” says Allison Markey, Senior Director of Audit Programs for WYVERN Limited.
Sonnie Bates, CEO of WYVERN Limited, also felt positive about the audit stating, "We are pleased that Duncan Aviation trusts WYVERN to conduct their audits and look forward to continuing our relationship through future projects."
The safety of its customers and team members is a core value at Duncan Aviation, and the IS-BAH certification demonstrated the company is making safety not just a goal but a daily practice.
“We are very proud of our FBO Services teams in all our locations for improving safety for our customers and team members as we continue through our IS-BAH stages,” says Troy Hyberger, Duncan Aviation’s FBO Services Manager. “Progressing to Stage II is really managing our SMS as it matures and we produce desired results by implementing appropriate Safety Performance Indicators (SPI) and Safety Performance Targets (SPT). We have seen our safety culture change over the last few years. Team members actively mitigate risk on a daily basis and record what they see, which enables our leadership team to make immediate changes, if needed, to improve ramp safety.”
Duncan Aviation’s full-service facility in Provo just celebrated completion of its phased construction and is now a full-service maintenance and refurbishment provider as well as an FBO facility.
“I am very proud to be a part of this FBO team,” says Provo FBO Services Manager Bob Cornett. “It is an extraordinary achievement for an FBO to go from non-existent to Stage II IS-BAH in less than 18 months. We were able to achieve this only with the support of all four of the FBO’s SMS teams working together on continuous improvement and safety management support. It is clear that Duncan Aviation is going to be a pioneer in aviation safety management in the coming decades.”
