LINCOLN, NEB. — Duncan Aviation is excited to announce a new 4-part video series where Regional Avionics Sales Representative Michael Kussatz walks viewers through the complete process of installing the Garmin G5000 flight deck into a Citation Excel/XLS. The video series is intended to give viewers a first-hand look into everything their technicians have to do to successfully install the new flight deck, and provide more information as to why 10% of the Citation Excel/XLS fleet has already upgraded to the G5000 avionics suite.

“Installing the G5000 flight deck is no easy task,” said Kussatz. “A lot of people don’t realize that the install requires the avionics, wiring, complete interior, and everything in the avionics nose bay to be removed and replaced. I wanted to give better insight into what our technicians have to do to install the new flight deck.”

The owner of this Citation Excel/XLS was looking to upgrade his outdated avionics suite due to the older equipment in his aircraft getting more expensive and difficult to maintain.

“The G5000 has a new 3-year warranty and much better reliability than the current, older system,” said Kussatz. “The system comes with some extremely advanced features such as Synthetic Vision, HSI moving map, onboard weather radar overlaid on the moving map, and the ability to split both the PFD’s and MFD’s screen to view additional pages. There is also an option to add CPDLC to the G5000, which is a system that is already here and expanding in the U.S. This system is used to streamline ATC and crew communications both on the ground and in the air via a text-based datalink.”

The new flight deck was installed at Duncan Aviation’s Satellite in St. Paul, Minnesota, where the team completed the install squawk-free, on time, and on budget.

The G5000 Integrated Flight Deck is a modern avionics suite that is equipped to meet and exceed industry requirements, while also offering a lower cost of operation and a three-year warranty. It features three high-resolution 14-inch flight displays situated alongside dual touch-screen controllers. The intuitive menu structures within G5000 feature a straightforward user interface, contributing to ease of operation. G5000 also offers optimal situational awareness, which features landscape-oriented flight displays with multi-pane capability, allowing pilots to simultaneously view maps, charts, checklists, TAWS, TCAS, flight plan information, weather, and more. Geographical map overlay within the HSI is also available on the PFD. Charts can be viewed across all three displays and are geo-referenced, including Garmin FliteCharts terminal approach procedures or ChartView powered by Jeppesen, as well as Garmin SafeTaxi airport diagrams.
