Resetting The ELT: What To Do When Transferring Aircraft Ownership

If you are purchasing or selling an aircraft with a 406 MHz ELT, do not forget to ensure the ELT (Emergency Locator Transmitter) registration information is updated and correct.

The owner’s responsibility is to notify NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) in writing about any change of the aircraft’s or ELT ownership or any other change in the registration information. Registering or updating your 406 MHz ELT is free, easy, and required. It can be done online at: https://beaconregistration.noaa.gov/RGDB/index

Updated ELT information is critical and could save lives. This information provides SAR (Search And Rescue) authorities crucial information about the ELT owner and the aircraft it is installed on if the need arises. It also includes emergency contact information of people that can provide additional valuable information that may save a life in an emergency.
