LINCOLN, NEB. — Duncan Aviation has officially added Charlotte, North Carolina, to its mobile engine Rapid Response Team (RRT) network. Operators in the southeast Atlantic region now have more convenient access to Duncan Aviation services like engine AOG and most scheduled and unscheduled events, including engine changes.
"There is a large presence of business aircraft in this area," says Andrew Arcuri, East Coast RRT Assistant Manager. "Having access to a qualified technician in the region allows operators to minimize unplanned downtime and expenses with onsite AOG support within hours."
The Duncan Aviation RRT has provided mobile engine services to Charlotte and the surrounding area by sending teams from its dispatch locations in Atlanta, Ga., and other areas in the Northeast region. They have been keeping their eyes open for the right person to step in and establish a dedicated local resource to support these customers.
Joe DiMatteo is the right person.
DiMatteo's aviation career began in 2013 when he earned his A&P from the National Aviation Academy in Clearwater, Fla. He has hands-on experience with several engine platforms, including Honeywell (AS907/TFE731), Rolls Royce, Pratt & Whitney, and Williams.
In 2016, DiMatteo joined Duncan Aviation on the engine line in Lincoln, Nebraska. Within two years, he was a lead tech on the team and training new technicians. When the opportunity opened up in 2018 to hit the road and join the RRT in Middletown, Del., he didn't have to think for long. He grew up in nearby Lewes Beach.
DiMatteo has embraced the challenge of developing connections and relationships with operators in the southeast Atlantic region. "It is exciting to have this opportunity of enhancing Duncan Aviation's brand and building the Rapid Response business in this area," he says. "I have been knocking on doors, introducing myself. I want them to know what I can do for them. I want to be their local resource for technical questions and engine Rapid Response needs."
When he is not on an RRT road trip, Joe DiMatteo is spending quality time with his wife, Liberty, and their two kids, Vincent (3) and Vivienne (1).
DiMatteo has been up and running since mid-September, establishing relationships, providing local engine support, and traveling the region to assist other Duncan Aviation RRT teams.
In October, the Charlotte RRT team will immediately double in size with the addition of John Holcomb.
Holcomb comes to Duncan Aviation with 23 years of aviation experience working on F18 Hornets while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and Air National Guard. After seven years in the auto industry working on BMWs, he returned to aviation as a turbine engine technician and quality inspector on Honeywell HTF (AS907) engines. Before joining Duncan Aviation, he worked directly with operators as a customer project manager, coordinating the necessary logistics for each event.
You will find Holcomb in his garage working on his BMW, motorcycle, or whatever else he can find to tinker o when he isn't working.
There are 18 RRT dispatch locations across the U.S., including all three Duncan Aviation MROs in Battle Creek, Mich., Lincoln, Neb., and Provo, Utah. They are the largest independent road team in the industry, offering mobile airframe and engine AOG and inspection services.
Duncan Aviation's Rapid Response network is always looking for the right person to join the team, says Arcuri. "If we find the right individual with the right mix of turbine engine experience, we have the spot for them and the work to keep them busy."
